Let’s Talk Skin

If you thought this post was gonna teach you on how to get whiter, i am sorry. wrong post. So sorry. Honestly there’s no healthy or safe way to get “whiter”  I am no doctor, but from what i learnt in the sciences during my undergrad. Hydroquinone is not generally safe. and the “effective” levels are quite carcinogen-ous. And by getting lighter, i mean “bleaching your skin”. if you just wanna lose your tan.. have patience and slap on sunscreen religiously, use some skin vitamins that fight oxidation (tanning), your skin would eventually regenerate.
So i do apologize. i have no tips on bleaching cause i wouldn’t even dare try it.

The overused sweater

1355352655131We all have that one item which we tend to over wear all the time and mix with every outfit we own. For me it is this sweater. I cannot get enough of it.
Was supposed to wear a copy of it in grey which the ups man just brought from agaci this afternoon but I removed the grey and slapped on the pumpkin color. It reminds me of pumpkin lol
Now I want some pumpkin pie.....
Or a pumpkin spiced latte.

Ben Nye Banana Powder Vs. elf Mineral Booster

DSC06553
I finally bought the Ben Nye Banana Powder!! It was so Hyped all over Youtube that I was curious to see what it would do, and in short, I wasn’t disappointed at all. So I decided to do a round two of the Yellow fight. This time, the winner of [Round 1] elf mineral booster vs ben Nye.

ROUND 1- Benefits Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder- Formerly known as Visage Poudre Luxury Powders, these ultra-neutral powders provide superior matte and subtle finishing. Often compared to French powders with silky-fine textures. the Ben Nye Bella line of powders are translucent with just a hint of color.
Give: 4/5
Achieve the ultimate, translucent "photo finishing touch" to your makeup, our Mineral Booster melts into your skin, infusing it with key vitamins A, B, and E to promote healthier skin that’s noticeably silkier and smoother. Completely sheer and ideal for all skin tones, Mineral Booster gently absorbs oil and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and pores for a beautiful even finish. Wear alone or buff over our Mineral Concealer and Foundation to lend extra staying power and to achieve a professional and stunning porcelain matte look that will last all day.
Give: 5/5

ROUND 2- Size
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder- 8oz
give: 5/5
Mineral Booster- 0.17oz
give: 1/5
I got the largest size of the Ben Nye because they run out so quickly. It is the biggest of all the Banana Powders I have researched, and the mineral booster is the smallest.

DSC06554

ROUND 3- Does its Job? Redness? Sensitivity? Glow?
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder
give: 5/5
Mineral Booster
give: 4/5
The Ben Nye Powder corrects redness more than the Mineral Booster. It is more pigmented, More yellow, and has more brownish gold glitter in it which gives a glowy look when applied on the skin. It also covers redness as well.

ROUND 4- Whitish Cast
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder
give: 4/5
Mineral Booster
give: 4/5
I think they are both on the same level when it comes to whitish cast.

DSC06594
DSC06599

ROUND 5- Texture & Moisture
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder
give: 5/5
Mineral Booster
give: 4/5
The Ben Nye particles are really fine, feels like rice powder, the powder isn't as soft as the elf High Definition Powder but it is softer than the Mineral Booster which is a little coarse so it kind of defeats the point for “Sensitive skin” It is not drying and It hasn’t irritated me yet but the texture is not so touchable. It feels like cornstarch. Actually, it is cornstarch.

ROUND 6- Cost
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder- $23.99
give: 3/5
Mineral Booster- $5.00
give: 5/5
Mineral Booster WINS this round because it is cheaper than Ben Nye.

Final ROUND
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder
give: [4.17/5]
will purchase again?: YES
Mineral Booster- 0.17oz
give: [3.83/5]
will purchase again?: YEPP
the WINNER is Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder!!

Correcting yellow elf HD vs Mineral Booster

DSC061741After dealing with ith the frustration of looking whitish or redness even with setting powder, I decided to venture into trying banana powder. I don’t exactly think this is banana powder, but it is close. I love the idea of a yellow setting powder that would help offset redness on the face and also set makeup. I couldn’t decide which one to buy, but I wanted to try the cheap ones first, and couldn’t find any review that favored one over the other so I bought both the elf HD and mineral glow powder, so this post is gonna be a comparison post.

November 2012 glam bag

This month’s glam bag wasn’t a disappointment either. I am still impressed with it. I kina like being subscribed because it has done a dramatic cut on my impulsive makeup spending. since I get new items to try every month I have stopped randomly purchasing items “in case” I get em’ in my glam bag.

October 2012 Favorites :)

I have decided to Join the favorites bandwagon! It’ll give me some more things to blog about huh? and a way to refer to old reviews that anyone may have missed :) Sounds exciting so along with other monthly posts incase you missed them (they're all on the Features bar)
[Virgin Hair Monthly Update]
and now [Favorites] !!!

YAY!
OK picking my favorites of this month is a huge task I have so many! I noticed some bloggers and vloggers never really have a set amount. but for me, if I don’t have a set number, this blog post would NEVER end lol I've watched a few Youtubers who don’t either and the video kind of gets boring after 10 minutes (or less- I have a short attention span) lol so making it short and sweet is efficient for both you and me :D

Missha BB creams and a Little Haul

DSC053821

I have long-awaited trying Missha products; since 2009 when I was introduced to the brand through Cl2425’s blog reviews, I have been conjuring an unending wish list of their products. None of which included their bbcreams. Until I saw a YouTube review of how darker skinned girls could mix their BBcreams with a darker color.

Genius! why didn’t it click? I have been mixing my foundations for Years just because nobody cares about the buttermilk Yellows :(. SO mixing my bb cream is a no brainer for me!

One thing I love about bbcreams is the Yellow undertone. even those ones that seem red undertoned still cater to yellow, and I love that I don’t need a special yellow corrector anymore! (in-fact I sometimes need a red so I wont look to grey LOL). It covers well, lasts all day and it makes my skin look better overall. I am forever hooked and shall stock up on all kinds of bbcreams!!

Another thing is Missha. They are sometimes expensive, but when they sell at sale price, they are cheaper than PC and Imm and SASA! I got both bb creams #31 and #27 of Perfect cover for $20.00 each (originally $29.99 each) and free shipping. Then shortly after that, on my birthday, they gave me another free mini size of perfect cover in #23 (originally $12.99). All I had to do was pay for shipping, lucky for me during that time they had another free promo plus free shipping. I got the aqua cleanser for free (originally $20.00)as well and got free shipping!. I think with Missha, you just have to get them when they are selling things on sale price, with a lot of Promos.

My Opinion: This has become my Holy Grail eye & Lip makeup remover. It does the Job perfectly, and it is gentle, doesn’t burn like other eye makeup removers I have used. it is not oil based so you don’t have that nasty residue on your eyes. My opinion: This is a very different lipstick. Its not creamy at all, reminds me of a highly tinted lipgloss. smells really fruity as well, like juicy. I like it because its perfect for a natural daily look, moisturizing, and the red can get intense depending on how much you put on your lips but not too shiny and No Glitter yessss.

My Opinion: I love this bbcream, its thick and creamy and covers very well. it is thicker than the Perfect covers and gives more coverage than it as well. I love using this for days when I need full coverage, it is so good that sometimes I don’t even have to wear undereye concealer. I do have one downside. This is the yellow undertoned one (#2) but it makes me look grey/porcelain/dead (o_O) if I use too much. I have to wear blush to balance out the color.
Acne Proof?: I think its OK for Acne-prone Dry/combo skin. It doesn’t break me out at all

MAY CONTAIN[+/-; Titanium Dioxide(CI 77891), Iron Oxides(CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)]

My Opinion: another good buy for a bbcream, This one is much lighter that Cho Bo Yang, but still effective in giving you the dewy look, and coverage is buildable. I love using this on days when I don’t really need that much coverage. I have it in 3 colors  31 (golden beige), 27 (honey beige), 21(light beige). The later two turn me crazy grey. 21 I cannot even use, I just look off. But 27 is kind of like the Cho Bo Yang issue, the grey is a little worse but can be corrected. My favorite is 31. Its for those with red undertones, but I can still use it
Acne Proof?: NO. If you have acne-prone skin. RUN. even if you don’t, try out a sample size first before you buy a larger size. I say this because all my life I have never really had acne before until I turned 22. And the only thing that has been causing my breakouts are products with Mineral oil (which is common in African American hair products). and this one has mineral oil in it so I don’t think I will repurchase.  It has caused me to breakout a couple of times but not consistently.

Missha Real Essential Sheet Masks (all)
DSC054131DSC054141DSC054201

Before I continue onto this review I wanted to make a few comments. one thing I noticed about lotion masks or any other mask is that you really wouldn’t get full results unless you continually use it for a while. And such is hard to do with lotion masks of varieties. I honestly didn’t notice any drastic difference between these masks so I decided to just do a general review of all of them.

Nutrients: the nutrients benefit was pretty awesome, being that the back is in English, you can see the ingredients and what you are getting/putting on your face.
Ceramide. Intensive Anti trouble care (I’m guessing acne?). makes your skin calm and soft
Platinum. Intensive clarifying care. makes your skin bright and moisturized
Multi-Vita. Intensive brightening care. makes your skin bright and clear
Collagen. Intensive firming care. makes your skin silky, nourished and firm
Coenzyme Q10. Intensive Anti-aging care. evens skin texture and shapes beautiful facial contour
Deep Sea Water. Intensive moisturizing care. makes your skin silky and moisturized
Hyaluronic Acid. Intensive hydrating care. makes your skin silky and moisturized

Brightening effect: most of them I noticed a minimal brightening effect after use. However, since its not my major concern, I didn’t take note which one. I feel like even those which were not indicated to “brighten” still did, and this kind of brightening is not a bleaching effect, but rather a regenerating effect on the skin. Continual use of nutrient masks like these would of course, make your skin nicely nourished and speed up regeneration and repair, which is exactly what happened to me. I tanned this summer, I still look tan, but my skin has a nice glow. That’s the brightening effect I like.
Sheet: the sheets are pretty thick. thicker than My Beauty Diary but not as thick as Etude House, however, the size is awkward and adherence in my opinion is minimal, it starts to fall off after 10 minutes.
Lotion: it is more of a creamy-clear serum like lotion as opposed to the gel of  Dr Hu Jalli or liquid lotion of My Beauty Diary. there was also not much left in the package, I couldn’t even put  any “excess” lotion on my palm to take a picture :(
I have this theory that the thicker the mask sheet type the less moisturizing the lotion and it seems to be proving itself right……hopefully It will be proven wrong soon…. in my opinion (the Etude House and these ones are much less moisturizing than My Beauty Diary, Skinlite and Dr Hu Jalli which are very thin paper-like masks..)
Moisture: 3/5
its not as moisturizing as most lotion masks I have used and after its dried off my face starts to itch a little. I feel like such is because of the serum. This is why I don’t like serums, although they are highly effective and penetrate nicely, they are quite drying for my skin. these masks are perfect for people with normal/oily skin, because your skin would not be left greasy etc.
Time: 15-20 minutes
Rating: 3/5
Will buy again?: last resort, maybe

Parnevu for Extra Dry Hair [PS]

DSC062941

Earlier last month, Lizzy had sent me a referral about Parnevu accepting requests to receive some products to try and review, I had heard of them before and seen a couple of products at the beauty store, but never tried them. I was curious, plus I was in dire need of a new deep conditioner and moisturizer for my crazy scalp (it’s getting dryer in Texas and my scalp is having none of it). SO this seemed like a good idea, I signed up and they sent me three products to review; here they are

November Colossal Update

DSC06533
omomo its been a month already? I guess so!
I took my hair down and washed it, and reinstalled it all in one weekend (it was the worst weekend ever) I was reminded as to how much I hate doing my hair, but all in all. It beats pay $100+ for installation every two months. One thing is for sure, I can’t do anybody’s hair and I understand why they hair stylists charge so much.

October Glam Bag 2012

DSC06332

I finally subscribed to ipsy. I was a little wary at first but after weighing the good and the bad reviews and even the hater for no reason reviews I decided to subscribe. I’m gonna try and stick to one year of subscription no matter what. SO I can do an overall review etc. before I sign up for another type (like Birch box). To be frugal I'd rather keep one continuous subscription to my credit card per year. I don’t wanna do more than one hence the reason I didn’t sign up for BB. Last year it was Wild games (so fun! ~ I love playing games having wild coins are cool). Sadly I was cleaning my computer and I deleted about 200+ wild coins (I get about 50 a month) *[face palm]*. I still have about 150 that I haven't used so I will manage that for a year. I’ll just play free games and such.

Let’s talk hair….[Colossal Virgin Hair]

DSC05857

I love changing my hair! its so much fun to experiment with styles etc. with a weave. I don’t think I can stand having the same style over 3 months. I think it will drive me Cray cray!
I have been buying a lot of extensions lately, both Remy and regular human and I noticed, when calculating the bills in total that it has been a waste paying up to a hundred bucks for 3 bags of non Remy or over a hundred for 3 bags of Remy non Virgin hair which both wouldn’t even last more than 3 months. I think taking care of my last two styles kinda broke it for me. I was tired of wasting money, the shedding, the crazy tangling, oh the annoyance. SO I decided to venture into Virgin Hair.

Shaving? Waxing? or Lotion?

Apparently I cannot use razors. no matter how good they are, from Schick intuition too Venus embrace to the thickest shaving creams (believe me, I’ve tried em’ all), and yet my skin gets irritated after use. I found this out almost too late, after I started developing keratosis pilaris on my shave bumps on my legs, leaving black spots everywhere. There was a time I never wore skirts or shorts because my legs looked like a cheetah’s skin.
no I’m not exaggerating.

so when I discovered the source (which I don’t know why I couldn’t figure out fast enough~ given that the razors caused intense itching, redness and peeling immediately after use~~ smh I guess I was young and thoughtless). I decided to try depilatories and I bought Nair, and tried to use it but it stank really BAD (Nair tends to have a raunchy stench) and it didn’t remove ANY Hair. I was so Mad and disappointed and frustrated.

SO I gave Veet a try, and what I loved about Veet (before they changed their formula) was that they had variations for sensitive skin (then) and removed hair under 3 minutes! they don’t stink as bad either, they also make shaving intervals longer, amazing! what could possibly beat that?  I swore by Veet…….

…………...until my local drugstores and Wal-Mart stopped selling Veet (they had also changed their formulas).
all of a sudden the shelves were replaced with the new Nair, and a LOT of Venus products……..
like wtf?!!!
so I tried the ONE Nair that was in store
and gave Nair a second chance…
SO Today, I have all the ones that I had tried and just a brief review of the ones I Have happened to stumble upon….

A lot of things happened in July but most importantly my birthday!! haha not really.
I also went to Louisiana for my aunt’s 50th. she's a July baby too. I had so much fun!! we all had to tailor outfits (matching Natives) for mine, I’m in the hi-low mood and I really wanted something big and princess-y, so my tailor made one for me. She’s so talented, its her own design :)
For the shoes, my mom wanted me to wear gold, but I had in mind that red would pop better, hence my new favorite shoes!! I have worn these shoes practically every week in the month of June and July. I made a LOT of outfits around this shoe lol I wore it on my birthday as well lol I love UrbanOg. I need more shoooess.
