MY 10 STEP SKINCARE ROUTINE | 2019

Hello, Y'all! It's the last day of 2019 and since I am starting the new year again with posting resolutions, I decided to at least try today to post about something: My skincare routine!

My routine changes based on the weather in Texas and in Ghana depending on where I am and at the time of the year. It is divided into Spring in Texas/Early Summer in Ghana, Summer in Texas/Ghana's Dry seasonFall in Texas/Late Rainy season, Winter in Texas/Ghana's Rainy Season. There are no drastic changes in my routine because I have combination skin, so all that changes with the seasons is my sunscreen.

SKIN CONCERNS
+Hyperpigmentation
+Acne, blackheads, whiteheads
+Acne scars
+Bumpy rough skin
+Wrinkles

+Dry eyes
+Dry cheeks

A FEW THINGS I HAVE CHANGED WITH MY ROUTINE
+ Switched from physical to chemical exfoliation
+Double cleansing with oil cleansers
+Tanaka facial massaging with a Jade roller (occasionally)
+Removing Alcohol from my routine
+Toning properly and washing my face for 60 seconds thanks to LA Beautyologist
+Layering products: Toner; Serum; Ampoule; Eye cream; Moisturizer/Sunscreen
+Special/spa days with lotion/sheet masks at least 3X a week, Regular masks at least once a week

MORNING

I start by washing my face with a bar of Kojic acid soap for 60 seconds (picture below). Then I spray on Rainshadow Labs Glycolic Derm Treatment Serum - AGDT (depotted in a spray bottle for easy use) as my toner. Next up is my salicylic acid serum. Right now I am using  Rainshadow Labs Anti Aging Clear Skin Serum - ASCS (depotted into an amber bottle for preservation). I just started using salicylic acid as a daily serum in my routine, adult acne is hard to defeat and I noticed it is easier to manage with this serum.

After watching a video by LA Beautyologist I now try to tone as much as I can so the Rainshadow Glycolic Derm serum is my first toner (for now- I have a lot I want to try in my Skincare Wishlist).  but my second after my serum is a 10-minute sheet mask.

When my husband first got these masks from my Japan trip I didn't really know what to do with them cause they're not individually wrapped and not intensely soaked in toner/serum. But now I use them quickly in the mornings (they're all 10 minutes except for the green one which is ironically a morning mask and is 1 minute!). I am currently using the pink aging mask (hence the Ziploc to keep it sealed). From L to R KOSE Cosmeport CLEAR TURN BABYISH MaskKOSE Cosmeport CLEAR TURN PRINCESS VEIL Anti-aging Care MaskKOSE Cosmeport CLEAR TURN PRINCESS VEIL Morning Skin Care Mask, KOSE Cosmeport CLEAR TURN BABYISH Precious Milky Mask. These masks can be easily found on Amazon.

After my second toner/sheet mask, I apply eye cream, SANA Nameraka Isoflavone Q10 Cream (picture below)

I finally finish up with my sunscreen {Banana Boat Sunscreen Sports Broad Spectrum Sun Care Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 / Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+/PA++++ Hadalabo Skin lab Gokujun UV white gel SPF50 + PA ++++/Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 with Sunflower Extract / Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40}.

During the summer in Texas and Dry season in Ghana (Nov-Feb), I use Banana Boat Sunscreen Sports Broad Spectrum Sun Care Sunscreen Lotion - SPF 50. For me, this is the only sweat-proof sunscreen that can stand the heat and stay put all day. As dry season transitions into the rainy season(Mar-May),  and during Spring in Texas I switch to a more hydrating but mattifying sunscreen Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+/PA++++. Then during Winter and Rainy season in Ghana (June-Aug), I use a moisturizing, hydrating gel sunscreen which is great for combination skin Hadalabo Skin lab Gokujun UV white gel SPF50 + PA ++++. I also just recently purchased another waterproof sunscreen for the in-between months like fall- Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 with Sunflower Extract.

I like to use the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 when I wear makeup (fall/spring) as a primer because it feels and looks like one with the blurring effect of a primer.

EVENING

This is where I start double-cleansing. I use my Shills Natural Science Cherry Blossom Make-up Removing Oil first to remove all the sunscreen, makeup and dirt from my face then wash with Kojic acid soap for 60 seconds and a pore brush, Beauteque Pore Control Blackhead Brush for my nose and forehead areas.

I switched from Micellar water to Cleansing oils because as I got older, my skin has become drier around my cheeks and when I cleanse at night with just micellar and then my soap it feels taut, but the cleansing oil adds some moisture beforehand while breaking down all the gunk and makeup which makes it easier to clean as well as making it a more comfortable experience.

I tone in the evenings with the Glycolic Derm serum again, then exfoliate with The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. I first apply it on a pad and wipe over my skin twice, then reapply with my hands and massage into my skin. This is my chemical exfoliation step, I've noticed a big difference in my skin when I stopped using scrubs on my face and using this instead.

Then before applying serum, I tone again with a sheet mask (pictures below). This time fo 15-30 minutes.

Then I apply my targeted active serum, right now I am using The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%. After serum, I apply a hydrating gel ampoule (as my last step toner), Farmstay All in One Dr-V8 Vitamin Ampoule (depotted in an airless pump bottle for sterility and easier use)then face cream, Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream.

I finalize with SANA Nameraka Isoflavone Q10 Cream as my eye cream. While my face is still moist and before the creams absorb I start the Tanaka facial massage with a Rose Quartz Roller Slimming Face Massager (can also be done with your hands)The Tanaka massage helps reduce puffiness, direct lymphatic flow and improves circulation. Plus it feels really good and relaxing!

ACNE CARE

Whenever I have breakouts, I spot treat with two treatments  Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel and Clean and Clear PERSA-GEL® 10 Acne Medication. I use this combo after my toner and right before the ampoule, avoiding the pimple area when applying the rest of the serums/creams, etc.

SPECIAL CARE

(L to R): The Face Shop Real Nature Lemon Citron Sheet Mask, MediHeal VITA Lightbeam Essential Mask EX, the SAEM Grapefruit Natural Mask Sheet, the SAEM Charcoal Natural Mask Sheet, the SAEM Rice Natural Mask Sheet, Noblesse Tea Tree Fermentation Essence Mask, Milatte Fashiony Ginseng Mask, My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Sheet Mask, My Beauty Diary Royal Pearl Sheet Mask, My Beauty Diary Red Vine Sheet mask, DERMAL Korea Wine Collagen Essence Mask, DERMAL Korea Pearl Collagen Essence Mask, Pure Smile Pearl Mask

(L to R): Milatte Fashiony Snail Mask, Milatte Fashiony Tomato Mask, Farmstay Visible Difference Mask Sheet Pearl, Farmstay Visible Difference Mask Sheet Acerola, HABA Japan (Health and Beauty Aid) Rose Honey and Milk Ceramide MaskHABA Japan (Health and Beauty Aid) Caviar Placenta and Double Collagen Mask, KOSE Cosmeport Princess Veil Aging Care Mask

When I feel like having a spa day or when I have time during the week, I mask. Usually, I aim to try every day (moisturizing sheet masks only) but it is not feasible realistically so it really depends on time and how tired I am at night.

(L to R): Missha SOS PEEL correct Cream Mask, The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, Rainshadow Labs Bamboo Cranberry Antioxidant MaskInnisfree Juju Volcanic Color Clay Mask (Brightening)Clean and Clear CONTINUOUS CONTROL® Acne Cleanser (I use this for 10 mins on my face as a mask when I have breakouts- works wonders!)PETITFEE Collagen & Co Q10 Hydrogel Eye Patch.

For masking, I have two types of masks the lotion/sheet masks which I try to use at least 3x a week (30 minutes), these are mostly moisturizing essence, serums, and lotions which leave my skin hydrated and glowing after use.

I also have some regular masks/Active masks (15 minutes) ranging from moisturizing masks, AHA masks, acne masks to clay masks as well as some eye masks.

ADDED PRODUCTS

I really don't wear makeup every day, maybe once a week or when I have events to go to so I don't use these products often. But before double cleansing, I take off my waterproof eye makeup with Equate Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.

Micellar water {PUREVIVI Cleansing Lotion} has been phased out of my usual routine just because I find oil cleansing more moisturizing and gentle on my skin. However, I still love micellar water and I cannot let go! I use it now for nights that I simply cannot bear to wash my face and I'm just so tired I need to sleep ASAP.

And that's it for my simple routine!
