The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is a cult favorite of The Ordinary lovers. It is the second product by The Ordinary that I purchased (the first being their Coverage Foundation) and maybe my most favorite product.

I used this product for almost a year now and I am on my second bottle, I wanted to use it for a while to see results before I post my review. Before I purchased this product I debated between it and the Pixi Glow Tonic and finally settled for this, which I do not regret. So here's my review.

With 7% Glycolic Acid, Amino Acids, Aloe Vera, Ginseng, and Tasmanian Pepperberry

+ ph3.5-3.7
+ alcohol-free
+ oil-free
+ silicone-free
+ nut-free
+ vegan
+ gluten-free
+ cruelty-free

Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.

Aqua (Water), Glycolic Acid, Rosa damascena flower water, Centaurea cyanus flower water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Aminomethyl Propanol, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Aspartic Acid, Alanine, Glycine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, Arginine, PCA, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Hexyl Nicotinate, Dextrin, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Gellan Gum, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.

+ 7% Glycolic Acid- an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin via chemical exfoliation. Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the keratinized layer to be exfoliated, exposing new skin cells.
+ Tasmanian Pepperberry- Contains polygodial which is an anti-inflammatory that helps reduce irritation associated with acid use, it also has broad antimicrobial activities.  It also contains anthocyanins which are antioxidants and protects the skin from free radical damage
+ Aloe Vera- soothing benefits and hydration
+ Ginseng- Antioxidant, anti-aging, and brightening properties
+ Amino Acids Aspartic acid, Alanine, Glycine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, and Arginine- Hydration, helps reverse visible skin damage, soothing skin, antioxidant and antiaging properties

This is due to the Tasmanian Pepperberry. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in color seasonally and this color variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. At first, I was confused that my first bottle (which I purchased from amazon) was a light color and my new bottle which I got directly from The Ordinary was a pale golden pink color. But this is just due to the seasonal variation of the pepperberry.

Use The Ordinary Glycolic acid 7% toning solution ideally in the PM, no more frequently than once per day. After cleaning, saturate a cotton pad with the formula and sweep across the face and neck. Avoid the eye contour and contact with the eyes. Do not rinse off. Continue with additional skin treatments as needed.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.

Although toning is not a necessary part of the skincare routine, exfoliating is: and I used to exfoliate with physical scrubs but we all know now that it is not a good idea because of the micro-tears caused on the skin. I do still use my old scrub but more so for my Keratosis Pilaris (KP) on my elbows and arms. I now use this toner on my face as my chemical exfoliant.

When I first used The Ordinary Glycolic acid 7% toning solution I had no big expectations. I really wasn't expecting it to brighten my skin or do anything drastic apart from maybe smoothing the bumps on my skin: since I was no longer physically smoothing them with a scrub. I have been using 12% Lactic Acid daily for my KP for over 10 years and I have never noticed any brightening on my skin, so I was quite familiar with chemical exfoliants. It is not magic.

Packaging. The packaging is simple, and for its price, The Ordinary Glycolic toning solution is a lot of product and easy on the wallet. I like that it comes with two caps one for traveling and the other for easy use and application. Just the right amount needed comes out and that's wonderful. Also, it lasts a long time: I purchased my first bottle of The Ordinary Glycolic acid 7% toning solution in April last year and it just finished In December.

Texture and scent. It has a light watery texture, it appears clear once on the cotton pad, and it absorbs well on application without leaving the skin tight or dried out.

Does it work? I personally think it does, I haven't had bumpy or rough skin since I started on it, I have not even felt the need to ever go back to physically exfoliating, my skin is smooth and I rarely have blackheads anymore. I still have whiteheads and occasional acne.

What I like about it
+ Gentle
+ No scent
+ Does not dry my skin out
+ Cheap
+ Easy to use

What I don't like about it I honestly don't have any cons to this product.

How I use it At night with my nightly skincare routine. I use a cotton pad first and wipe it twice on my face, then I apply it to my hands and pat on my face for full absorption.

WILL REPURCHASE? Yes, most definitely!
Overall, this is a good skincare product. My Skincare holy grail.

That's it for my review!
Thanks for reading!!
